Accuracy and precision Two habits of mind

What is a habit of mind? Well, its kind of hard to explain. A habit of mind is a state of mind that is set and you have to work for it. I think. Wait! How about I explain accuracy and precision in this PowerPoint and you see if you can find out what a habit of mind is by the end! Ok? Great!

Aren't accuracy and precision the same thing? No. If you are accurate, your average is on target If you are precise then all the stuff is really close together, or if not right together. Get it? If not flip to the next slide for a story

Story time! Okay, so say that you just got your report card. You open it up and realize you got all C’s, nearly failing the class All your grades are the same, which is precise, but not at all accurate Sometimes being precise isn't that great

Continuing… Now, remake the picture: you just got your report card back. You open it up and see that you got 2 A’s, 1 A-, 2 B+’s, and a B That is accurate because you did really well, but not precise because they aren't the same. Accurate isn’t always the same

Continuing… Once again remake the scene: Getting your report card You open it up and see that you got 2 D’s, a C, 2 C+’s, And a D+. This is nor accurate or precise because the grades aren't all the same and they are’nt the best. Some times you really want to be either accurate or precise

Continuing… Okay, I know that you want me to stop with this story, but please remake the scene: Getting you report card You open it up and see you got straight A’s This is both precise and accurate because the grades are all the same and they are really good. That is why you should be accurate and precise

Jobs you can be accurate and precise in Secretary Artist Tatum’s teacher Cat sitter Engineer Computer consultant Lawyer Author Teacher And many many more I forgot! So there are a lot of successful jobs that you have to be accurate or precise in, so you better start being accurate and precise now!

Now do you get what a habit of mind is? If you don’t, Well, Sorry. I cant help you anymore. You’ll have to find out yourself. Sorry again. I did what I could. And I cant do much more. Sorry again again. Bye
