Incremental Progression in Writing at KS2: Strengthening Skills and Nurturing Habits English Language Education Section Curriculum Development Institute Education Bureau Collaborative Research & Development (“Seed”) Project for 2014 – 2015

To engage students in interesting and meaningful writing activities and to stimulate students to think and write creatively and critically To help teachers enhance students’ writing skills progressively to ensure a smooth transition between P6 and S1 To help students make connection between the texts introduced in Reading Workshops to motivate students’ interests & nurture their writing habits To cater for diverse learning needs and interests and to promote assessment For and As learning To enhance teachers’ capacity in developing students’ writing skills and nurturing their writing habits A school-based writing programme To investigate effective strategies to develop students’ writing skills progressively at KS2 through implementing a school- based writing programme.

Project Title: Incremental Progression in Writing at KS2: Strengthening Skills and Nurturing Habits Project Code: EE0114 Duration: September 2014 to August 2015

Seed schools are expected to:  nominate 1 experienced and committed English teacher to be the project leader and identify a core group of teachers to form a Project Team;  build on the school’s existing writing programme and identify one upper primary level for implementing the programme  consider how discussion and material development can fit into the level’s current mode of collaborative lesson preparation;  set aside a period of time in the scheme of work to try out the writing tasks (at least one fiction and one non-fiction) developed by the project teachers of the same school; and  assist in the collection of evidence (covering tryout lessons, classroom observations, interviewing students/teachers) on the processes of change and impact on student learning.
