Our Students are Unique! Special Education students may have various learning differences. Although they are seen as disabilities, they are really differences in the way they operate as opposed to the average student. Visual Processing Differences (Slide 2) Auditory Processing Differences- (Hearing final and initial parts of conversations) Attention Differences- The ADHD child Sensory Motor Differences- Writing difficulties.

How Should You Help If You Get This Student? LRE- Least Restrictive Environment IDEA- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (2004) SLD- Specific Learning Disability Auditory Learners- discussion, books on tape, recorded text, recorded lecture and discussions… Kinesthetic Learners- Movement in the lesson, rewards (incentives), projects, hands-on activities, manipulatives, building or sculpting activities, music… Visual Learners- Visuals, posters, realia, videos, flashcards… Tactile Learner- Note taking, writing, feeling an example…
