Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions By Dr. Tom Cheyney

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #1. Trying to plant without being called by God. Explosion #2. Trying to place ones self over the Holy Spirit and seeking to plant a church without being a church planter.

Twelve Questions Church Planters Must Ask: While it’s difficult for a leader to assess himself with much accuracy, here are some of the questions a prospective church planter must answer: 1. Whose kingdom am I building?

Twelve Questions Church Planters Must Ask: 2. Am I listening before I’m leading? 3. Am I a visionary? 4. Do I take the initiative? 5. Have I started other ministries, groups, or businesses? 6. Do I relate well to the unchurched?

Twelve Questions Church Planters Must Ask: 7. If married, is my spouse entirely supportive of your vision? 8. Do we both persevere? 9. Am I flexible and adaptable? 10. Am I resilient? 11. Do I have a gift of gathering others? 12. Am I a hard worker?

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #3. Trying to plant someone else’s church! Explosion #4. Wrong Location. Explosion #5. A Premature birth and lack of core group development. There is a rush to the telling over the walk of team building.

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #6. Desperately Rushing people into positions of leadership instead of developing them. Explosion #7. Too much passion which results in poor planning. Explosion #8. Spiritual Oppression.

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #9. Changing for changes sake! Explosion #10. Lack of supervision, support and accountability. Explosion #11. Insufficient outreach. Explosion #12. Allowing your fear to overcome faith!

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #13. Unrealistic expectations. Explosion #14. Lost focus on evangelism and discipleship. Explosion #15. No process of ministry. Explosion #16. When gathering becomes hording and multiplication generosity is lost.

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #17. Sin in leadership. Explosion #18. Missing Your Cultural Target. Explosion #19. Exhausted core group. Explosion #20. Exhausted church planting couple.

Avoiding Launching Large Church Planting Explosions Explosion #21. Critical spirit. Explosion #22. A Toxic Steering Committee. Explosion #23. Wrong facility.

Wrapping It Up: Five Dynamics to Help you avoid these Explosions Balance (Acts 2:42-47) Participation (Acts 6:1-7) Empowerment (Acts 9:31) Expected Ministry (Acts 9:36-42) Faith (Acts 16:5)

I leave you with these final words of encouragement. Rest in your Call, not your Circumstances. Adjust your plan, but never your passion. Strengthen your faith in the face of fear. Believe in God, regardless of the garbage that comes upon you from others. The harvest is at the end of the Age, not the end of the meeting.
