The Compact Disc is an evolution of LaserDisc technology. Prototypes were developed by Philips and Sony independently from the mid-to-late 1970s. The two companies then collaborated to produce a standard format and related player technology.

The basic specifications of the CD: The scan speed : m / s, fixed line speed / CLV. Gauge(Track pitch):1.6micron Disc diameter:120mm Disc Thickness: 1.2 mm Within a radius size:25mm Outer radius size:58mm Capacity:700MB Read and write speed:1x=150 KiB/s=153,600 Bytes/s

VCD is stored on a CD video message standard. Audio CD player in the personal computer or CD- ROM player, and most of the digital multifunction CD-ROM player.

VCD is a full-motion, full-screen playback of video standards. Its format can be divided into: 1.Resolution of 352x240 pixels, frames per second (for NTSC TV play) 2.Resolution of 352x240 pixels, frames per second 3. Resolution of 352x288 pixels, 25 frames per second (for PAL format on television)

DVD Digital Video Disc (digital video disc) was originally the acronym, because most of the early launch vendors only image publicity and launch products, and the computer industry was not much demand for high-capacity storage media.

Specifications of a total of five seeds in the original DVD specification: 1.DVD-ROM: Used for storing computer data 2.DVD-Video: Used for storage of images 3.DVD-Audio: Used for storage of music 4.DVD-R: Can only be written to once recordable disc 5.DVD-RAM: And rewritable burning discs

HD DVD is a store digital format information to the Blu-ray laser technology disc products, has developed into a high-definition DVD standard, HD DVD Promotion Association is responsible for the formulation and development.

HD DVD-sided single-layer capacity of 15GB, single-sided, dual-layer capacity of 30GB.

The naming of the Blu-ray Disc is due to the use of a wavelength of 405 nm blue laser beam to read and write operations (DVD uses 650 nm wavelength red light reader, CD is 780 nm infrared).

A single-layer Blu-ray disc capacity of 25GB, enough to record a high resolution video up to 4 hours. Sony said, the 6x speed burn single-layer 25GB Blu-ray Disc is only about 50 minutes. The double-layer Blu-ray disc capacity of 50GB, enough to burn up to eight hours of high- resolution videos. Wavelength of 405nm blue laser beam to read and write, has been able to save a huge capacity

Technically, 3-layer single-sided dual-format discs, the 1-layer DVD record layer is placed on the top. 2 layer HD-DVD record layer is placed in the lower, red thunder by different depth of focusshot with blue-violet laser to read the record layers of different formats.

Using a wavelength of 405nm blue laser beam to read and write is to shorten the write mode because these three: a Refine laser point gauge (0.32μm) to increase the capacity of a Blu-ray Disc 0 and 1, is able to save huge capacity, digital data signal pit (0.15) becomes smaller, because the read information pit blue laser wavelength than the red laser. Second, the use of a different reflectance of the multilayer writing effect. Ditch rail and write, to increase the log space. The high storage capacity of Blu-ray is improved from the wavelength of the laser light source (405 nm) of the objective lens numerical aperture mirror (0.85) comes.
