Hi-tech farming

What is hi-tech farming? Who and where practices hi-tech farming? Methods and Techniques they used Why do they practice hi-tech farming Advantages and disadvantages of hi-tech farming Comparison of characteristics of different agriculture type Summarizing of main points

What is hi-tech farming? Uses advance scientific methods to improve crop yield or to control the environment in which crops are grown and often automation and computerization are used to reduce the input labor. Consist of hydroponics and aeroponics, not grown in soil. Temperature at which crops are grown and amount of the water are controlled by computer. Highly efficient and productive as well as environmental friendly.

Who and where practices hi-tech farming? Developed countries that have limited land. Countries that practices Hi-tech farming are: Singapore, USA, Japan and so on.

Why do they practice hi-tech farming? That country have limited lands Higher yields can be obtained Clean environment Organic, no pesticides Easy hiring labour

Advantages of hi-tech farming Big lands are not necessary. No soil required Clean working environment. No soil borne diseases. Off-season production is possible. Easy to hire labor as hydroponics system is more attractive and easier than cultivation in soil. Water wastage is reduced to minimum.

Disadvantages of hi-tech farming • Higher expenditure. If the electric pump fail, the plants will die easily. • Considering the significantly high cost, the soil-less culture is limited to high value crops of the area of cultivation. • A large-scale cultivator may have to purchase instruments to measure pH and EC of the nutrient solution. • Energy inputs are necessary to run the system.

Summarizing of main points Soiless culture, which also means that they use mineral nutrient solution instead of soil. Solution in which pH, temperature, and nutrient concentrations are Controlled by computers. Environmental friendly.
