Humans have domesticated dogs and have become mans best friend Dogs have become accustomed to humans and their ways of daily life They no longer need their native fur and fur color for camouflage Dogs rely on humans for shelter, water, and food, while wolves hunt You don’t see as many wild dogs roaming around as wolves Dogs have lost some of their hunting skills Source: Mission Wolf

The two species are similar by: They both have an interest in hunting things like a dog hunts a squirrel and the wolf hunts a deer. The wolf also has a hierarchy the wolf pack has the Omega, Alpha etc. and the dog has the hierarchy with the family in its home alpha, omega etc. They both howl or bark, this is how they communicate They are alike in weight. They both range from pounds Their DNA is some similar the only part that is different is 0.2% or less Both animals have a set of 42 teeth They have the same behavior and fur protection German shepherds are the closet type of dog to wolves They both leave their mark by urinating on something Source: Ehow

You CAN domesticate a wolf, as long as you remain the alpha The wolves are shy so they won’t protect you like dogs, they except you to protect them In some stories and myths people have domesticated wolves Wolves will never be as close to humans as dog It takes generations to domesticate a wolf In the end the wolf that you domesticated grandchildren and so on will just evolve to be dogs Source: Yahoo Answers: Personal Experience

It’s possible to cross-breed a wolf and a dog Because dogs evolved from wolves their DNA’s are close enough to cross-breed The German Shepard is the closest type of dog breed to wolf in appearance When cross-breeding some pups get the looks of the wolf and the domestication of the dog, or it can be the other way around That’s what allows us to domesticate wolves The cross-breeds are called wolf-dogs Plant Physics Source: Dog Breed Info Center

1.The wolf is a cousin/descendant of a dog 2.Wolves and dogs have the same DNA 3.All the knowledge we have gathered about dogs apply to wolves also 4.The dogs we keep as pets are a hunting species 5.Dogs killing small animals, such as mice 6.Different breeds of dogs are closer or further from wolves Essendon Vet Clinic Source: Nonlinear Dogs

Wolves stomach's are much stronger, and their teeth are better for hunting then dog’s Due to their domestication, dogs have lost their ability to hunt Dogs teeth are too small to rip open a deer's throat, showing an adaptation to a different diet The dog though still has its hunting gene, for instance you see your dog in the garden chasing a squirrel or mouse, that is the hunting gene the wolf had Gabby’s Page Source: Diffen

Both dogs and wolves mark their territory by urinating on something to mark their scent. The wolf howl is not only a way of the wolves communicating with each other, it is also a way to ward off other wolves from coming on to their territory. Males mark their scent by lifting their hid hind leg and urinate When they usually squat and urinate They also howl to let other animals know that their it’s there territory Wikipeta Source, Book: Tracking Wolves in the Wind

Over time the minds of dogs and wolves have changed Domesticating dogs, have in a way rewired them To understand wolves more scientist have studied different types of breeds and compare them to wolves Even though dogs have evolved from wolves, they are two different animals Dogs think in a different way then wolves Domesticating dogs have changed them Wolf Ilicious Source: NY Times

It takes 90 minutes for a dog to get used to dogs It takes a Wolf 24 hours Wolves develop faster then dogs, it means that wolves can rely on themselves more then dogs When a wolf is born its blind and deaf for the first month, it rally's on it sense of smell Sense dogs were the first animal to be domesticated they’ve been with us the longest Source: NY Times National Geographic

Dog were domesticated in the 1500s Grown up dogs and wolves weigh about the same weight Over evolution the vocal cords have changed between the two species Wolves have longer muzzles and thicker skulls In mythology wolves are gods Black wolves don’t occur naturally There about 80 breeds of dogs Cannibalism is common amongst wolves The average life span for a wolf is 6-8 years Source: PBS
