System Analysis (Part 2) The System Development Life Cycle Problem Selection and Feasibility Study

Re – Cap 1. What is a system? 2. What is analysis? 3. Who is the main man in a system analysis team? 4. Why do you need a team of people? 5. Why do companies change their system?

Maintenance Implementation Design Analysis System Development Life Cycle 1) Project Selection and Feasibility Study 2) Present System study and Analysis 3) System Design of the New System 4) Programming and Documentation 5) Implementation and Change Over 6) System Control and Review 7) System Maintenance

Implementation and Change Over This is the 5 th stage of the system development life cycle At this stage the system is actually changed and implemented The employees will now be able to start using the new and improved system 5

The 5 Steps The implementation stage is sub divided in 5 steps 1. Installing Hardware 2. Installing Software 3. Transferring old files to new ones 4. Training the staff 5. Deciding on the change over method

Change Over Methods The change over method effects the way the system is introduced to the staff It is basically the way the new system is implemented into the company  There are four different methods that a company can choose from

1. Straight Cross Over Here the old system is replaced with the new system right away With a straight cross over no time is given to get used to the system as it is simple just replaces the old one Some companies like to use this as it gets the new system up and running right away with no waiting time

2. Parallel Running Here the old system and the new system will be running at the same time With parallel running the staff have time to get used to the new system while still having the old system to do their work Some companies do not like this option as it might take the staff longer to learn the new system if they have the old one to fall on

3. Phased Change Over Here small parts of the new system are implemented at different times This is done so that the staff could learn how to use the new system a bit at a time Eventually once all the parts of the new system are implemented it will take over the old one completely

Pilot Change Over Here different departments are implemented at a given time An example would be that first the accounting department’s system will be implemented first then the receptionist’s system will be implemented until all the departments have the new system This gives each department of the company time to get used to the new system
