In the 1970s, the TOEIC was developed by the largest testing organization in the US, Educational Testing Services (ETS). Since the late 1990s, the TOEIC has significantly increased its impact upon the assessment of communicative English, especially in Japan and Korea. The test results are used by a number of companies, universities and private schools. The test scores impact job recruitment and admission to graduate schools. At present, test preparation for the TOEIC has become increasingly important for many university students.
