D ECLARING THE M INOR IN P SYCHOLOGY Current UNC Charlotte students who would like to declare a Psychology Minor will need to complete the online Psychology Minor Application. The minimum requirements to DECLARE the MINOR are: COMPLETION (within TWO attempts) of General Psychology with a grade of C or better (transfer/AP credit is accepted). COMPLETION of a Natural Science course with a corresponding Lab, with a grade of C or better. Psychology courses may NOT be counted toward this requirement. COMPLETION (not in progress) of at least 12 credits of coursework at UNC Charlotte. An Overall UNC Charlotte GPA of 2.00 or above. At least one Psychology course completed at UNC Charlotte with a grade of C or better. A GPA of 2.00 or above for all Psychology courses taken at UNC Charlotte. The entire application process must be completed by the posted deadline. If the process is NOT completed by the deadline, the applicant will need to repeat the entire process during the next application period.

P SYCHOLOGY M INOR R EQUIREMENTS The Psychology Minor consists of a minimum of 18 credits in Psychology. All Psychology Minors, must complete the following 18 Psychology credits:  General Psychology-PSYC 1101 (3 credits) Grade of C or better; Within TWO Attempts  Knowledge Base Courses: 3 courses (9 credits) Each course must be from a different category  Psychology Elective Courses: 2 courses (6 credits) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  At least 6 credits of courses must be at the 3000 level  At least 6 credits of courses must be earned in the UNC Charlotte Department of Psychology  Minors may apply up to 3 credits of PSYC 3806 toward the required 18 credits; additional credits may be used towards meeting the minimum of 120 credits needed for graduation.  A Psychology GPA of 2.00 or above for All psychology courses taken in the UNC Charlotte Department of Psychology  Minors are NOT permitted to enroll in PSYC 2101, 2103, (Research Methods I & II), PSYC 3405 (Practicum), PSYC 3807 (Peer Advising), PSYC 3808 (Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship), or 4000 level Capstone Courses

PSYC 3806 U NDERGRADUATE RESEARCH A SSISTANTSHIPS The Undergraduate Research Assistantships are done under the supervision of a UNC Charlotte Psychology faculty member, and potentially involve all aspects of conducting psychological research such as compiling a literature review, designing methodology, data collection and analysis, and creating an APA-Style research report or presentation. The course provides opportunities for individual study in a student’s special area of interest. The course permits advanced, specialized study and also provides experience that is often valuable in locating a job or gaining admission to graduate school upon graduation. Students have assisted with experiments and engaged in research reviews in all areas of Psychology. Many student research projects have resulted in published articles or professional presentations. The first step toward enrollment in the course is to review faculty’s research interests Students should contact faculty as soon as possible during the semester BEFORE you plan to participate in the Undergraduate Research Assistantship (e.g., contact faculty early during the fall semester to register for a spring assistantship). Students will need to receive a permit to register from the faculty for whom they are conducting the Research Assistantship. Students interested in Undergraduate Research Assistantships are NOT automatically enrolled by faculty members. Often these assistantship are competitive and may require an application process specified by the particular faculty member. To take PSYC 3806 you: must be a Psychology minor with a GPA of 2.00 or higher may apply a maximum of 3 credits of PSYC 3806 toward the minor; additional credits of PSYC 3806 may be applied toward the 120 credits required for graduation

I MPORTANT CAPP INFORMATION FOR P SYCHOLOGY MINORS The CAPP degree evaluation may NOT be accurate for the Psychology Minor, if you declared your major in a term different from your minor. Why does this happen? The Banner System uses the term of your major for CAPP and that may evaluate your minor under the wrong requirements. It is very important to request a review of your minor AFTER you have registered for your last semester of courses and BEFORE Drop/Add is over in your final term. This may be done by ing your assigned Psychology Minor Advisor. Exceptions to the minor requirements will NOT be granted if students relied on CAPP and did NOT verify completion requirements with their Psychology Minor Advisor.

To declare the Psychology Minor, you will need to complete the following steps: 1.Complete the Psychology Minor Application found on Moodle – Psychology New Major/Minor Declaration. Applications will be processed from Friday, September 11th until Friday, October 9 th at 3pm. Applications will NOT be accepted outside of this period, until the next major/minor declaration period. 2. After your application has been reviewed, you will receive one of two s: Accepted as a Psychology Minor. An electronic Change of Major/Minor form will be sent to the Office of the Registrar on your behalf. Once the Office of the Registrar processes the forms, you will see the change of your minor on your Banner account. Please allow some time for the department and the registrar to record the changes to your academic program. Be assured that before the course registration for the next term begins, your information will be updated and you will be able to register for your necessary classes. Not eligible to declare a Psychology Minor at this time. This will include the requirements you are missing and suggest strategies for becoming eligible to declare in future Psychology Minor Declaration periods. 3.
