The Service alternative form (A)

PREPARATION IN THE NAME In the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

HYMN (a hymn or song may be inserted here)

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Friends in Christ: Let us draw near to God our Father with a true heart to confess our sins, and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

We confess that we are born in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have failed to do. We have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves.

We deserve your eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

I ask each of you in the presence of God who searches the heart: Do you confess that you have sinned, and do you repent of your sins? I do. Do you believe that Jesus Christ has redeemed you from all your sins, and do you desire forgiveness in his name? I do. Do you intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to live as in God's presence, and to strive daily to lead a holy life, even as Christ has made you holy? I do.

As a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to all of you. On behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his command, I forgive the sins of all of you who repent and believe, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you. Amen. 8

HYMN (a hymn or song may be inserted here)

PSALM / INTROIT After the psalm or introit: Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forevermore. Amen.

LORD, HAVE MERCY In peace, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace of the whole world, for the wellbeing of the church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. 11

For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Amen. 12

HYMN OF ADORATION: THIS IS THE FEAST This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God. This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Power, riches, wisdom, and strength, and honour, blessing, and glory are his. This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing, honour, glory, and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia. This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

LITURGY OF THE WORD GREETING The Lord be with you. And also with you. PRAYER OF THE DAY (COLLECT) Let us pray … one God, now and forever. Amen.

FIRST READING After the reading: This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM /ANTIPHON The antiphon or the psalm may be sung or said. The psalm ends with: Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

SECOND READING After the reading: This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

RESPONSE Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia. Alleluia OR, in Lent: Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow anger, and abounding in steadfast love.

GOSPEL The holy gospel is written in chapter... Glory to you, O Lord. After the gospel: This is the gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

HYMN ( a hymn or song may be inserted here)

SERMON After the sermon: The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus. Amen.

CREED The Nicene Creed is said. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 27

HYMN (during the singing the offerings may be received)

OFFERTORY SONG Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life.

Gather the hopes and the dreams of all: unite them with the prayers we offer now. Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come. 30
