Why Do We Have Phases of the Moon?

Oh, by the way, what’s a phase? Good question! Oh, by the way, what’s a phase?

Phases The changes in the appearance of the moon’s shape during a month, such as:

We’ve got that out of the way! Good! We’ve got that out of the way!

We have phases because the Moon revolves around the Earth.

Revolution The circling of one object around another object in space. A planet revolves around the sun.  A moon revolves around a planet.

Earth revolves around the Sun. Moon revolves around the Earth.

Why does the Moon and Sun appear to move in the sky?

Rotation - When a planet or moon turns all the way around or spins on its axis one time.

As the Moon revolves around the Earth, we see different amounts of the Moon’s surface in sunlight.
