BELLWORK

Need to Know  Using information from the entire text, describe how the death of bees could personally affect you and your family in the near future. Cite specific evidence from the text to support your answer. Use complete sentences.

Punnett Square Practice  Which statement about the offspring of his cross is most likely true?  A All the offspring will have the same phenotype and genotype.  B All the offspring will have the same genotype, and half will have the same phenotype.  C Three-quarters of the offspring will be tall, and one-quarter will be short.  D All the offspring will grow to medium heights.

 In guinea pigs, black fur (B) is dominant to white fur (b). A Punnett square of a cross between a black-furred and a white-furred guinea pig is shown below.  What can be determined from this Punnett square?  A There is a 100% chance that these guinea pigs will have live offspring.  B There is a 100% chance that these guinea pigs will have four offspring.  C There is a 50% chance that the offspring will have gray fur.  D There is a 50% chance that the offspring will have black fur.

 1) The genotype Hh is:  A homozygous dominant  B homozygous recessive  C heterozygous dominant  D heterozygous recessive  2) Which of the following alleles best represents offspring that is homozygous recessive?  A hh  B HH  C Hh  D hH

Celebrity Genetics 1. Record the phenotype and genotype for each of the traits listed for both the female and male. You may have to pick a genotype for some traits. For example, if the person has brown hair, the genotype could be either BB or Bb. 2. Create a punnett square to cross each of the parents traits. 3. Record the trait the offspring will MOST LIKELY inherit. 4. Draw a picture depicting what the offspring will look like. 1. Trait information 1. Dark hair (Brown, Black) is dominant to light hair (blonde, red) 2. Dark eyes (brown) are dominant to light eyes (blue, green) 3. Dimples are dominant to No Dimples. 4. Unattached Ears are dominant to attached ears 5. Widows Peak is dominant to No Widows Peak

Exit Ticket  Create a Punnett Square scenario listing what each trait represents and what the genotype of each parent it. Cross the genotypes to determine the percent chance that the offspring will have a certain trait.  Feel free to be creative!
