 April 14, 1865 (day of assassination) Key People  John Wilkes Booth  George Atzerodt  Mary Sarrat  Dr. Samuel Mudd Lincoln’s assassination effected the Reconstruction Process.

 In April of 1865 Lincoln his wife went to see a play called ‘Our American Cousin’ around 10:15 John Booth slipped into the president’s box and fired his.44 caliber single shot Derringer into the back of Lincoln’s head. When Lincoln was shot the crowd at first thought it was part of the play until his wife let out a loud scream. Soldiers carried Lincoln across the street to a housed and placed him on the bed. When the general arrived at the house he concluded that Lincoln could not be saved and would die in the night. 12 days later John Booth was found but refused to surrender so he was shot by a union solider.
