 The book that I read, Green Thumb by Rob Thomas, takes place in the US. The main character, Grady Jacobs, gets an from a very well-known scientist and botanist named Dr. Carter to spend the summer with him in the middle of the Amazon Rain Forest in Brazil to help him and a few other botanists to work on the “New Forest” where Dr. Carter is trying to create super trees.

 Brazil was founded in 1612 by the French.  Brazil got its name from a tree called the pau- brasil where the first settlers extracted different chemicals from.  Brazil gained its independence from Portugal on September 7 th, 1822.

 Brazil is the country with the 5 th largest population in the world. Brazil’s population is about 190,732,694.  Brazil’s official language is Portuguese.

 Football (soccer) is the most poplar sport that is played in Brazil. It is played by young people, old people, girls, and boys.  Many top football players come from Brazil such as Pele, Ronaldo, and Messi.

 Toco Toucan- this toucan is two feet tall and eats only fruit. It is the largest toucan of all.  Sloth- a sloth lives in the Amazon, has grooves in its outer-most layer of fur, and comes out of its tree once a week to urinate.  Golden Lion Tamarin- this animal is eight inches tall and can jump up to fifteen feet.

 Sao Paulo is Brazil’s most populated city at about 11,244,369 people.  Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s second largest city, receives about 50 inches of rain annually.  Brasilia is Brazil’s capital.

 One of the more popular tourist attractions in Brazil is the Iguaza Waterfall. This waterfall is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Iguaza Waterfall stretches for 2.5 miles between woody and rocky islands.  Another must-see place is the Amazon Rain Forest. This forest runs for 6,280 kilometers and there are many tours given for it.
