Welcome to the Desert Hawk Scouting Combine

What is a scouting combine? - Each year, the best college football players take part in a series of workouts and tests to measure their fitness. -Players with the best scores and performances on the tests are selected earlier in the NFL draft in April, which means more $$$! -In our scouting combine, we are gathering data that will help us improve our overall physical fitness and athletic skill levels so that we can be more successful. NFL Combine

Introduction -During this week, you will be working towards completing your second Fitnessgram fitness test of the school year. -3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will record their scores. K, 1st, and 2nd take the test for practice. -All that is expected is that you give your best effort. Your score on the fitness tests will not negatively affect your grade in PE.

Introduction -There are 10 different fitness tests you will be taking. Each measure your different physical and skill related fitness levels. -Physical fitness components measured: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance (body composition will not measured) -Skill related fitness components measured: speed, agility, and power (balance, coordination, and reaction time will not be measured)

Directions - At each station there will be a clipboard and pencil for you to record your BEST score only. Write your name and score on the sheet that has your classroom teacher's name on it. - You may take any of the tests as many times as you like. By the end of the week, you need to make sure you have a score recorded for all 9/10 tests. (PACER next week). -Avoid spending too much time (more than 10 minutes) at one station. -There should be no more than 6 people at each station.

Directions -Scoring is based on at least one fellow classmate, or witness who can verify your score. -We are on the honor system, so do not exaggerate your scores! -Any near grade level records, or unusual scores recorded will be retested for accuracy next week.

Fitnessgram Push-up Test -start in the up position -back in generally straight line -lower self by bending elbows to 90 degree angle -must stay down and up with the cadence -after two mistakes, your test is over -should be able to go far enough to touch the ball

Fitnessgram Curl-up test -start with knees bent at 45 degree angle, feet flat on the floor, arms straight with fingers extended. -on "up" command, raised shoulders off of ground and slide hands past the strip -on down command, return back to start positions. -after two mistakes, your test is over. Pushup Cadence

Pushup and Curl-up demo

Fitnessgram Sit and Reach test - press both feet against the mat and keep legs completely straight -place one hand over the other and reach towards the ruler. -your score is the number of inches where your fingertips can touch on the ruler -try at least two times for best results

Fitnessgram Flexed Arm Hang test -with an overhand grip, you are trying to hold your chin above the pull-up bar. -test is over when chin dips below the bar -score is in seconds

Standing Long Jump -must jump off both feet together while standing still -mark distance from start of jump to the heel closest to start of where the jumper landed.

Vertical Jump - Stand up straight and reach one arm in air on the chart. Place one marker on the board. -Take a different marker and place it on the board by jumping from two feet. -No running starts.

40 yard dash -Start timer on go signal, or as soon as runner begins to move forward. -Stop timer once runner crosses the 40 yard mark.

3 Cone Drill -The 3 cone drills tests an athlete's ability to change directions at a high speed. -On the signal, sprint from the starting line, go 5 yards to the first cone and back. Then, turn and go around the second cone, run a weave around the third cone, which is the high point of the L, change directions, come back around that second cone and finish at the starting line. 3 Cone Drill Video

Softball Throw Mark distance from where ball was thrown to where it first landed. Do not throw softball back towards start line!

Fitnessgram PACER test -begin on beep by running to other side and stopping. Do not go back until the next beep. -the time between the beeps decreases at certain levels. -after two mistakes, your test is over. -person who is next in line will count mistakes and mark laps on sheet. -PACER soundtrackPACER soundtrack

Review HFZ Chart Try not to spend too long at each station. Work towards completing all tests by end of week. Record one score at each station by end of week. Return pencils, clipboards, score sheets, and stop watches back to the cone with the cover. Return the sheet with your teacher’s name on it to Mr. Sizemore at end of class. Have fun and try your best!
