Version National Ocean Sciences Bowl The Timekeeper Sits at the Officials Table The basics... It’s very important to keep focused on the time -- NOT the game. One match is composed of two six (6) minute buzzer question halves separated by a team challenge question segment. There will be a minimum two (2) minute break in between the halves. You will have a game clock for timing the 6 minute buzzer round and a stopwatch for the toss-up, bonus, and team challenge questions. The second half of buzzer questions will not begin until the scores of the Team Challenge Questions have been announced. TIMEKEEPER What DO I Do ?

Version National Ocean Sciences Bowl To begin… Set the game clock for the 6 MINUTE buzzer round and the stop watch at zero for timing the first toss-up question. Start the clocks when the moderator begins reading the first question. Students have 5 SECONDS to buzz in to answer a toss-up question, after being recognized, they have 3 SECONDS to begin their answer. After 5 SECONDS, announce “TIME!” TIMEKEEPER What DO I Do ?

Version National Ocean Sciences Bowl Students have 20 SECONDS to begin answering a bonus question. After 15 SECONDS, announce “5 SECONDS!” The team may confer among themselves but only the team captain may give the answer. After the total 20 seconds are complete, announce “TIME!” TIMEKEEPER What DO I Do ?

Version National Ocean Sciences Bowl The Team Challenge Question segment: Students have between 2 MINUTES and 5 MINUTES to answer the team challenge questions. Timer begin the clock when the moderator announces “BEGIN”. After 45 seconds remain, announce “45 SECONDS!” After 15 seconds remain, announce “15 SECONDS!” After the total time period is up, announce “TIME, PENCILS DOWN!” The Captain hands in the answer sheet for the team.
