Scoping a Certificate IV qualification for the delivery and assessment of foundation skills

Definition Foundation skills:  Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) – learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy  Employability skills  Digital literacy Across a continuum of levels…

Discussion questions a)Does use of the term ‘Foundation Skills’ make sense in the proposed qualification? b)Would the qualification be better if it focussed exclusively on language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) development in a vocational context?

Background Driven by:  Gap in VET workforce capacity  Increasing diversity of learners  Integrated approaches to delivery

Discussion questions c)Are particular factors driving an increased focus on foundation skills within the work of your organisation/department? d)How well is your organisation/department equipped to respond to the foundation skills development needs of learners?

Purpose Equip VET practitioners with skills and knowledge in integrated training and assessment. Ability to:  develop and implement integrated training and assessment solutions  help to build RTO capacity  support the implementation of the Foundation Skills Training Package.

Target audience Potential users of the qualification:  lead vocational teachers/trainers  resource developers  program planners  vocational practitioners.
