During CPR you must: Perform chest compressions Ensure and maintain an open airway Ventilate

When to begin CPR: Check ABCs

Effective CPR: Patient supine on hard surface Compress smoothly Proper depth Allow recoil Gives heart chance to refill Watch for rise and fall of chest when ventilating

Limit interruptions to no more than 10 seconds Moving the patient Hypothermia Take extra time to check for pulse Theyre not dead until they are warm and dead

Stopping CPR: Only a physician can order CPR to be stopped Otherwise you can stop CPR if: Pulse is regained Pulse AND respirations are regained You turn your care over to someone of equal or higher level of training

You turn your care over to a physician You are exhausted and are no longer able to continue
