Life cycle CLIP

Wild Type The abdomen of males bear a round terminus exhibiting a brownish genital apparatus on the the ventral side. Females have a pointed abdomen that displays a less noticable genital apparatus on the ventral side The females are on average bigger than males

A very certain feature to distinguish males from females are the sex combs

How do you work with them? Put the vial in the freezer – check on the flies every 30 secs-1 minute until they are “sleeping” Pour the flies you want into the petri dish. Place petri dish on ice pack. Place both under microscope. If they start to wake up – put them back in the freezer.
