18 th century: became the most popular dramatist in England More relaxed and realistic way of speaking his lines Wide audiences came to see his plays Some performances used the original text but the most were adapted 1769: David Garrick organized a “Shakespeare Jubilee” (he adapted some plays of Shakespeare)
19 th century: Became popular in the whole world Trend to his original texts and accuracy to the historical facts in the plays Very realistic sets and extra scenes for the audience
20 th century: Early 20 th century - original lines - trend to little scenery Later 20 th century - experimental ways of playing and understanding Shakespeare - translation in many other languages - inspiration for movies, art etc. - studied by millions of experts, schools and universities
