If you scored less than 20/25 on Friday’s quiz, you will do error analysis before starting today’s assignment. On a separate sheet of paper, re-work all missed problems. You may use your notes if you would like. After re-working the problem, explain in detail the mistake that you made. FIND GCF IF WE ARE: ssplitting things into smaller sections.. ffiguring out how many people we can invite given certain quantities of food, etc. aarranging things into rows or groups… aasked to find the GREATEST, LARGEST, MOST, MAXIMUM…. The overall idea is we are DIVIDING—just like factors divide into a number.

FIND LCM IF WE ARE:  Have events that are repeating over and over…  figuring out how much to get of items in different quantities so that we have the same amount  Finding out when 2 or more things will happen at the same time  finding the LEAST, SMALLEST, MINIMUM, etc. The overall idea is we are MUTLIPLYING—just like multiples.

APPLYING WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED… Samantha has two pieces of cloth. One piece is 72 inches wide and the other piece is 90 inches wide. She wants to cut both pieces into strips of equal width that are as wide as possible. How wide should she cut the strips? IS THIS GCF or LCM?.

SAMANTHA HAS TWO PIECES OF CLOTH. ONE PIECE IS 72 INCHES WIDE AND THE OTHER PIECE IS 90 INCHES WIDE. SHE WANTS TO CUT BOTH PIECES INTO STRIPS OF EQUAL WIDTH THAT ARE AS WIDE AS POSSIBLE. HOW WIDE SHOULD SHE CUT THE STRIPS? 1. Underline important information. 2. Decide if we need to find GCF or LCM. 3. Find the GCF of 72 and 90 using one of the 2 methods. THE GCF is 18. Samantha should cut each piece into strips 18 inches long.

The pink monorail and the green monorail leave the Magic Kingdom at 9:00 a.m. The pink monorail arrives at the Magic Kingdom every 9 minutes. The lime green monorail arrives at the Magic Kingdom every 15 minutes. At what time will both monorails arrive at the Magic Kingdom at the same time? The LCM of 9 and 15 is 45. So at 9:45 a.m. they will both arrive at the Magic Kindgom.
