Problem of the Day As I was going to St. Ives I met a man with seven wives And every wife had seven sacks And every sack had seven cats And every cat had seven kits Kits, cats, sacks, wives How many were going to St. Ives? Solve the above rhyme using exponents. You must give the exponential property used in order to receive the 2 points

Answer The power of products property allows you to simplify the rhyme using only one base and one exponent Wives= 7 1, sacks= 7 2, cats= 7 3, kits= = 7 10

Do Now 1/31/12 In your notebook, use the properties of exponents involving products to complete the following warm-up problems.

Too Many Rules to Remember??  Sometimes creating a simple rhyme, saying or even song can help you remember things easily.  Can you think of any things that were easier to remember through a song?

With the members of your tribe, create a short poem using one, or more, of the properties of exponents. Your poem should be an easy way for someone to learn about the property and remember how to use it. This is your first grade for the 3 rd marking period so start off strong! Tribe with the best poem receives 5 points on the leader board.

Complete the exponent puzzle lining up the equivalent expressions. When you are finished, you will have made a 4x4 puzzle. First group to complete the puzzle correctly will gain 3 points on the leader board. The scores are close. Good luck! Solve the Puzzle!
