Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46

Principle #1 Everything we have, everything we are and everything we do has a price tag.

What We Have May Be…. Material or Non Material

Material possessions… Car Home Bank account Collections Guns Land Furnishings

Non Material Possessions… Relationships (family, friends) Education Experiences Pleasure Rest Power Time Spiritual things

something! But they all cost something!

(2 Samuel 24:24 KJV) And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

Sin costs something: (Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. It cost Cain, Ham, Korah, Achan, Saul, Ahab, Judas Iscariot, Annanias and Saphirra and a host of others

But Blessing Costs As Well … for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: 17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Principle #2 The Costs May Be Both Material and Non-Material

What we spend to get what we want could be material Barter Money Resources

But the vast majority of what we spend is non-material Time Emotion Labor Freedom Exchange of comfort

What we spend- whether material or not- has limited quantities, so we must look at what we value, prioritize and plan.

Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

Luke 14:31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

If you try to make lots of money, what is the money for ? If you spend a lot of time on something, what do you get in return? Is your investment going to have returns for you? Family? God? How Long? Is it worth it?

Principle #3 What we invest in is Tied to the Laws of Sowing and Reaping

We get what we pay for.

II Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

We pay now, or we pay later, but there are always costs. There are costs for inaction, as well.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
