Village Museum in Szentendre Photographed by Ivan Szedo
Village Museum2 Original buildings and artefacts illustrate the 18th- to 20th-century rural architecture, furniture, and the way of life in the most distinctive in this country. It is also a venue for numerous events which preserve traditions. Territory are divided into 9 different fields. Within each of these landscape units the houses and farm buildings are arranged traditionally according to the custom of the given region. The aspect of each 'village' is rendered complete by sacral, industrial, and public structures that traditionally were part of the village. So far 6 regions have been completed; the seventh is under construction. Besides the open-air exhibitions there is also the Ethnographic Study Collection, a collection of artefacts in storage which is also accessible to the public. Temporary exhibitions are held regularly as are numerous large-scale events which demonstrate various aspects of farming life, work, folk traditions, cottage industry, and handcrafts. A grocery, a restaurant, and a bakery are open to the public on site and there is a lovely playground for children.
