BART 2007 Security Presentation Slide 4 BART Moves the Bay Area 350,000 average weekday passenger trips; approximately 100 million annually. BART serves 26 cities in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and San Mateo Counties. 43 stations and 104 miles of track. Carries the same number of passenger-trips as the Bay Bridge during peak transbay commute (approx. 30,000).

BART 2007 Security Presentation Slide 5 PAST BART provides vital support to the Bay Area after disasters: –1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake –1999 Oakland Hills Fire –2007 MacArthur Maze Meltdown Limited internal security protections.

BART 2007 Security Presentation Slide 6 Security Sensitive Information (SSI) –Information that requires the highest level of protection. Protected Critical Infrastructure Information (PCII) –Information pertaining to infrastructure that requires the highest level of protection. Documentation –Can be either SSI or PCII, or at the very least should be kept confidential. Electronic Communications –Network infrastructure protection. PRESENT

BART 2007 Security Presentation Slide 9 Transit is recognized as a primary target –Historically transit (bus and rail) has represented 33-40% of terror attacks. –The West Coast is a target. –Terrorists have successfully attacked subways in France, Spain and Japan.
