Introduction Knowledge of study skills and their application helps students to gain concepts effectively. Learning takes time, and therefore students need to apply the most effective study techniques. Learning requires “repetition – meaningful repetition”. The “record disk” of the brain accepts new material much faster if it “hears, sees, feels, tastes, and detects motion” during input or recording time. What are some of the techniques that help students remember concepts?

1. Mnemonics Material that is difficult to master can be organized by finding the key words in each point, noting the first letter, and arranging the letters into a sense of nonsense word. Many such arranged letters are now being used in place of the words they represent; for example: - Who = World Health Organization - HIV = Human Immunodeficiency Virus Let’s see some Mnemonics formation:

2. Study (flash) Cards Study cards are the effective and easiest way to learn and remember new information They simply condense information so that you only learn the important facts and ideas. In printing study cards, the student uses kinetic energy, thus making the impression stronger on the brain; and are useful overlearning. They are convenient to carry and flip through for mastery. Learning requires expenditure of energy. The student must be actively engaged in producing the sounds.

3. Memory General Points to consider: Students must focus their attention on whatever needs to be remembered. Many studies indicate that you will master information faster if students learn in Groups. Students learn when they overlearn through repetition. Correlative reading enhances student’s interest. The greater the knowledge, the greater the interest.

Conclusion Selection of effective study technique can be compared with that of a driving direction that is short and easy to get you to a destination successfully. For many, the “Weekly Flow Chart” technique works effectively, because it engages students to refresh their memories. Group study helps students to share concepts, and to freely express what they know, solidify their experience, and leaves memories of the discussion. Apply the most effective study techniques (mnemonics, flashcards, memory etc.) which enhances your learning process.
