Matthew 5:13-16 Salt and Light 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16

Love for Enemies Matthew 5: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

Love for Enemies Matthew 5: But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

Love for Enemies Matthew 5: He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Love for Enemies Matthew 5: If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

Love for Enemies Matthew 5: Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Hymn #23 Prayer of St. Francis

Giving to the Needy Matthew 6:1-4 1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Giving to the Needy Matthew 6:1-4 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Giving to the Needy Matthew 6:1-4 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing

Giving to the Needy Matthew 6:1-4 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Hymn #18 Change my heart, O God

Judging Others Matthew 7:1-5 1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Judging Others Matthew 7:1-5 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Judging Others Matthew 7:1-5 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

Judging Others Matthew 7:1-5 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Hymn #22 Like a melody
