Presentation transcript:

What is sustainable fishing? It’s the process that guaranties which affects the future of fishing.

What benefits do you get from fishing? Teaches patience Spend time to reflect. Saves money

How can we make fishing more sustainable in Barbados? Educate people what is fishing for Barbados What is important to tell them why

Is sustainable fishing important to you? Not necessary But everything what is sustainability is good for the sea and good for us If the temperature of the water would sink we would have to warm the water that we don’t loose our recourses of fish

What happens to fish if they are too small to eat? It depends on the people who catch the fish. Some would bring them home to eat or others just throw them back in the sea

Does Barbados has to pay TAX if they catch fish on their own? In Barbados not but in a few other countries they have to pay taxes Other countries also have a limit how much fish they are allowed to fish

Did the BP oil spill affect Barbados ? Yes, fish was becoming more expensive even in Barbados, so is the price of gas, what fisherman have to buy for going to do their jobs

What would happen if the oceans would be overfished and they would be empty? A lot of people would loose their jobs, not only in Barbados, and it is not only the fishermen who loose their jobs, it is also lots of other people which make the way possible to get the fish to sell. And there will be no Oistins fish festival Coral in industry will have problems to sell their products because their products aren’t that beautiful as they were when fish were affecting it.

Why is fish so expensive? The price of the fish deepen on the season, and how hard it is for the fishermen to get it.

Fishing 2004 In 2004 several government and non-government organizations came together in a meeting to come up with a plan to organize and keep being involved in the fishing sectors of Barbados. The government had gathered fishermen, boat owners and etc. to split in groups on the best fishing areas in Barbados to get more involved and informed of where they can get as much fish as possible to keep up the industry and to keep it growing and still have it running. The government had also provided these fishermen and boat owners more fishing equipment for the best fish possible and they would be prepared for annual fishing seasons to come.

Map

Industry marine fisheries Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands, and is entirely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Barbados is less than 20o nautical miles from the north, west and south. The potential extended marine jurisdiction has been estimated at approximately 48,800 km2 of ocean. The surrounding oceanic surface waters are low on nutrients, thermally stable and of low productivity.
