Introduction to Ecosystems Ecology. Ecology is the study of organisms and their interaction with the environment. –An organism is any living thing Examples:
TYPES OF FOREST ECOSYSTEM. DECIDOUS FOREST Decidous forest: are dominated by Decidous trees. These trees shed their leaves each year and re grow them.
Region of the biosphere that has similar communities and climate.

Forests have trees. There are squirrels living in the trees. Squirrels and deer eat plants. There are animals in the forest that eat meat. Forest bottoms.

What do you know about TREES ?

Let’s Look at some amazing trees These trees are in New Zealand. Why do you think they look this way?

This beech tree grows in South America. Moss is hanging from it.

These are blooming cherry trees in Germany.

This oak tree in America is over 1,400 years old!

The third largest giant sequoia in the world. It’s located in California. It is 73 m tall.

This is a maple tree tunnel. It is also located in America.

This is called a rainbow eucalyptus. It is in Hawaii. The rainbow patches appear as its bark sheds.

These boabab trees are found in Madagascar. They hold a lot of water in their trunks, which is great during droughts!

Trees can be eerie. Go to Ireland to see these.

What is a biome? A biome is a LARGE community of plants and animals. Each biome has a certain type of climate.

Three types of forest biomes 1. Coniferous forests 2. Deciduous forests 3. Rain forests

Coniferous forests 1. (Evergreen) Trees produce cones SpruceHemlockFir

Animals in coniferous forests Bears Moose Pandas Owls

Deciduous forests 1. Trees in deciduous forests lose leaves in the fall (after they change color!)

Deciduous forest trees Oak Ash Maple

Deciduous forest animals Bears Deer Raccoons

Rain forests 1.More species of plants and animals than any other biome 2.The largest rain forest is the Amazon Rain Forest 3.It provides 1/5 of the world’s oxygen and fresh water 4.The Amazon River has over 2,000 species of fish… that’s more than the whole Atlantic Ocean!

Rain forest animals Jaguar Orangutan Toucan
