Impact of NCLB on Paraprofessional Employment (updated September 19, 2002) Do the new requirements apply to me? New criteria do not apply to you. NO YES How does your school receive the funds? Are you a Targeted Assistance School? Are you a School-wide Program? For Targeted Assistance Schools, ONLY the paraprofessionals paid from Title I funds are impacted. For School-wide Programs, ALL paraprofessionals are impacted. The local Board may adopt a policy applying NCLB criteria to ALL paraprofessionals. Does your school receive Title I funds?

Criteria for Employment Impact of NCLB on Paraprofessional Employment (updated September 18, 2002) Paraprofessionals must meet ONE of three options: Complete 2 years (48 semester hours) of study at an IHE Meet rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through formal assessment the knowledge of AND ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics Obtained an Associates Degree from an IHE Test plus continuing education Community college placement tests available only for those re-enrolling in formal education programs WorkKeys job profile AccuplacerASSETCOMPASS Intense staff development NC Dept. of Labor Program NC Assistant Teacher Association P.D.P.
