Brief Description of Lesson Plan I would like to further develop my lesson on shop safety. Currently I hand them a 15 page True/False test (one page on each machine). Then we walk around the shop discussing each of the individual pieces of equipment. They have an opportunity to ask questions, then they sit down and begin the test. After they have answered one or two, I mention that they must get 100% on the test to be able to work in the shop. They have a moment where they freak out, but take the test very serious. I do not mention that; 1-They can correct the test to get a pass, 2- it is T/F so the correct answer is pretty easy. They do however have to correct the questions they missed with a complete answer explanations as to why the statement is true or false. Is this a “rock star” lesson, or one that you want to further develop? I definitely want to develop this lesson. It is effective, and the students are engaged. I would like it to be more educational. We discuss the answers as a group as we corrects the tests.

Slap a huge test down on day 1. I come across strict. No “how was your summer” fluff. The students also know from the older kids That they have to take this test. The older kids play it up also that they have to pass with a 100%. Safety test to gain access to the shop. Tool ID, operation, and PPE. Written test.

Tool ID Tool Operation PPE Consequences Real life application to why safety standards are set. Written test Acting Solving a mystery Group discussion This is a serious topic, and I do want to keep it that way. I think I would keep the first 2 days the same. We learn about the tools, take the test. Day 2 we grade and discuss answers, make corrections. However, on day 3, I could add a little theatrics to the lesson. I am thinking I could wrap my hand up, (or a students to really make it believable), fake blood, the works. The scene is ready for the kids to identify what safety rules were not followed to have this happen (guard off etc.).
