 Overview of Learning Styles  Two Learning Assessments Used › Memletic Learning Style › Felder & Solomon Learning Style  Strategies to balance my learning styles

 Learning styles describes ways in which a person learns.  Knowing your learning style will help you identify your strengths.  Knowing your learning style gives you an indication of how to improve your learning.  Personally, it has helped me to really understand who I am.

Visual Learners learn through seeing. Auditory Learners learn through hearing. Kinetic Learners learn through doing.

 Memletic is based on two words. Memory and Athletics  It’s goal is to help improve memory and learning  Each style in the inventory can get a score of 1 – 20  A score of 20 indicates the style that one uses most often.

Style Scores Visual13 Social20 Physical13 Aural17 Verbal12 Solitary14 Logical15 According to the Memletic learning styles inventory, I am mostly a social learner. This score is followed closely by aural and logical. I compare fairly equal in the visual, physical, solitary and verbal learning styles.

Score of 1-3 means you are fairly well balanced on the two dimension scale. Score of 5-7 means a moderate preference for that dimension Score of 9-11 means a very strong preference for that dimension

 Active and Reflective dimension: I have a moderate preference for doing something active while learning  Sensing and Intuitive dimension: I am fairly balanced. I learn by facts, discovering possibilities and relationships.  Visual and Verbal dimension: I have a moderate preference of seeing pictures, graphs and flow charts.  Sequential and Global dimension: I am fairly balanced. I like having the big picture, but I also want to take it step by step.

 Organize assignments on a time line in order of due date  Work out consistent study schedule  Use social skills to create study groups  Find connections to the real world to topics I am learning  Find diagrams that relate to course material  Study overall goals and then break into small tasks

 Richard M. Felder: Hoeschst Celanese Professor of Chemical Engineering  Barbara A. Soloman: Coordinator of Advising First Year College  Linda K. Silverman: Educational Psychologist All of North Carolina State University Learning style model created by Felder and Silverman for students and instructors of engineering and science.
