Map of the North Central Plains

Major Cities The major city is Fort Worth and some of the other cities name are Arlington, Abilene, Wichita Falls, and San Angelo.

Wildlife On the North Central Plains, the wild life habitats are big. Some of the most common animals are deer, the bunny, Lizard, and Gray Fox.

History The Balcones Escarpment, which is a large fault zone where small earthquakes have happened. Northwest of this fault, the land goes into the Texas Hill Country and into the tablelands of the Edwards Plateau to the south and the North Central Plains to the north. The entire area changes from about 750 to 2,500 feet (200 to 750 meters) above sea level, and farming and livestock raising are the most important jobs.

Rivers In the north central plains their a lot of rivers. Some are close to the wildlife habitat. Some of the names of the rivers are like the Red River, Sabine River and Trinity River.

Climate and land characteristics The climate during summer is hot. It often gets above 100 degrees during the day. In the Fall, around the end of September, it starts to cool off.

Interesting Facts Here are some interesting facts about the North Central Plains: they get 20 to 35 inches of rain per year, there is enough rainfall and good soil to grow many crops, and there is oil in some areas.
