Clay Houses -50 points

Objectives: Students will create a house or store using the slab building technique. Students will add architectural details to their house. Houses must be at least 4 x 4 inches. All parts must be scored and slipped together.

First roll out a slab using canvas, slab strips and a rolling pin.

Instructions for building an irregular form: Put it on its side!

Instructions 1. Make a template for the front and back side of your house. 2. Roll out clay. 3. Cut out both the front and back side out of clay. 4. Let the clay dry so that it is stiff. 5. Cut out a long rectangle for the sides of the house.

6. Score and slip the sides to the front and back. Reinforce corners with coils. 7. Smooth with a sponge. 8. Cut out 2 large squares of clay and make the roof. Attach each side and cut off what you don’t need. 9. Cut out windows, add shutters, add doorknobs, curtains, etc. 10. Score and slip everything you add on. 11. Let dry 12. Fire and glaze. Fire again.
