Presentation transcript:

Augusto Ninni, 2013/2014 1

 The presentation is not compulsory: in the syllabus no more than 8 presentations are foreseen 2

 Countries  Sectors  (Multinational) firms 3

1. Choose the country you prefer (not Italy, of course) → better if you can read the source texts in the original language 2. Show the main economic (and political) changes from the 90s 3. Describe the main industrial policies or competition policies 4. Focus on a policy you consider significant for the development or the growth of the country 5. Excluding: Finland, China, Argentina, Asian Tigers, United Arab Emirates 4

 Choose any industry you prefer, reference to any official classification is not obligatory (however in this way it is more difficult: look at the following point)  Show the main performance within the sector, in terms of sales, technology, successful or failing firms, global value chains  Describe and analyze one global value chain  The sector can be analyzed at an international, national or even local level  Excluding: Pharmaceutical, port systems, cruise ship industry 5

 Choose an Italian or foreign firm: it must have an Internet site showing economic information (Fortune or Mediobanca or other sources)  Show the main performance of the firm, in terms of sales, technology, internationalization, global value chains, stock market value  Analyze what is provided by journals  If it is possible, add an interview  Excluding: Unicredit 6

 Each group has people  They must choose their topic during the course and inform the teacher  The group has to send the slides to the teacher before the presentation  The group has no more than 60 minutes to show the results of its analysis by slides; the discussion with the colleagues and with the teacher occur in the other 60 minutes  The mark (up to 3/30 as a maximum) depends on the presentation and on the replies during the discussion. The mark can be differentiated within the group, so that people can receive different marks  The presentation mark is added to the mark obtained in the written papers 7 Rules

 Students are required to inform the teacher well before the end of October if they want to be part of the groups involved in presentations  If the number of the foreseen presentations is less than 8, more ex-cathedra lessons made by the teacher are required 8
