What Can Staff Say About the IR?

Cut and Paste Info is available in the Sample Announcement or Response to an Inquiry. Here are some highlights: Sample Announcement or Response to an Inquiry (Yes,) the UT Libraries have setup an online repository, the UT Digital Repository The Repository was established to provide open online access to the products of the University's research and scholarship endeavors, to foster the preservation of these digital works for future generations, to promote increasingly rapid advances in scholarly communication, and to help deepen community understanding of the value of higher education.

More Cut and Paste language: The Repositorys purpose is to collect, record, provide access to, and archive the digital works of the University of Texas at Austin, including research and scholarship, as well as works that reflect the intellectual and service environment of the campus. You can learn more about this service at the About page but feel free to contact me and we can talk about how you may want to submit your digital works to this persistent, search engine indexed, openly accessible platform.

More Cut and Paste language: If you just want to get started submitting, you can submit when (1) your work is ready for dissemination, (2) your work is in digital format, (3) you have identified the appropriate collection for the work, (4) you have authorization from a curator to submit to a collection, and (5) you have confirmed you can grant non-exclusive distribution and preservation rights for your work. To get help with all of this contact Uri Kolodney at

Language intended to help staff answer questions regarding Authors rights: Faculty, staff, and students own copyright in their scholarly work at UT. When submitting work to the Repository, the copyright owner retains copyright while granting non-exclusive rights to UT Austin, their departments, and the Texas Digital Library (TDL). During the submission process, submitters agree to a statement affirming their knowledge of the copyright status of the work.

Language intended to help staff answer questions regarding Authors rights, continued: Questions to consider before submitting works: What is the copyright status of the work? More specifically, has it been previously published? And if so- Was copyright transferred to the publisher? Were some rights retained by the author?

Language intended to help staff answer questions regarding Authors rights, continued: Resources to help answer these questions: Copies of publisher agreements signed by authors SHERPA/RoMEO, database of publishers' archive policieshttp:// Model publishing agreement addenda to establish authors' right to self- archive (e.g. SPARC Author Addendum Online MIT's Amendment to Publication Agreement
