2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.2 Motivation (1/3) Currently, the power control formula in the m system can be described as [1] –P is the TX power level per stream and per subcarrier for the current transmission –L is the estimated average DL propagation loss calculated by AMS –SINR TARGET is the target uplink SINR received by ABS –NI is the estimated average power level of the noise and interference per subcarrier at ABS –Offset is a correction term for MS-specific power offset and it is controlled by the power control message

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.3 Motivation (2/3) ABS monitors the quality of specific uplink channel by checking the information in the fast feedback channel (FFBCH) of certain user –FFBCH periodicity determines how frequently ABS tracks the channel change –FFBCH periodicity is decided by feedback allocation A-MAP-IE (FA-A-MAP-IE) Power offset is used to track the channel variation if ABS feels there is a need to do that

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.4 Motivation (3/3) There are two schemes used to deliver the power offset value to MS –Via power control (PC) A-MAP-IE Power control commands for several AMS could be aggregated and delivered via PC-A-MAP-IE and AMS should be able to identify the address of its power control command inside PC-A-MAP-IE PC-A-MAP-IE provides a small scale power adjustment The periodicity of PC-A-MAP-IE is the same as that of the feedback channel, which is decided by FA-A-MAP-IE –Via power control adjustment message (AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ) It provides a large power jump to quickly adopt to the environment change It is one of the MAC control messages signaled by the downlink (DL) basic A-A-MAP-IE to a specific user

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.5 Problem Statement When ABS observes a huge power gap in the uplink, it may like to do the following two things –Send a AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ message to MS –Monitor closely to the channel variation Additional feedback allocation A-MAP IE is necessary It would be great to combine these two messages to save some signal overhead without requiring extra resource

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.6 Capacity Analysis of AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ (1/2) The content of AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ includes –AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ ::= SEQUENCE{ OFFSET_DATAINTEGER (0,…,63), OFFSET_CONTROLINTEGERINTEGER (0,…,63) } The total number of information bits inside AAI-UL- POWER-ADJ is 20 bits, including a 8-bit message type, which is not shown, and we need to append additional 16-bit CRC for integrity check As a result, the overall payload size is 36-bit in total.

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.7 Capacity Analysis of AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ (2/2) The minimum size of information bits indicated by DL basic A-A-MAP-IE is 72 bits, which corresponds to idx equal to 3 –i.e., idx = I MinimalSize +I SizeOffset =1+2 Note that we need one additional bit to signal the presence of FA-A-MAP-IE information in AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ Therefore, there are 35 information bits remained

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.8 Capacity Analysis of Feedback Allocation A-MAP-IE The number of information bits in FA-A-MAP-IE without CRC is limited by 40-bit. Some of the IEs in FA-A-MAP-IE are redundant and can be removed when both FA-A-MAP-IE and AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ are combined –For example: A-MAP-IE Type (4-bit) ACK Allocation Flag (1-bit) HARQ Feedback Allocation (HFA) (6-bit) Therefore, the size of remaining elements in FA-A-MAP-IE excluding A- MAP-IE Type, ACK Allocation Flag and HFA is upper bounded by 29- bit. It is possible to combine these two messages without extra resource

2014/2/9 Copyright © MediaTek Inc. All rights reserved.9 Proposed Solution (1/2) The updated content of AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ includes –---ASN.1START AAI-UL-POWER-ADJ ::= SEQUENCE{ OFFSET_DATAINTEGER (0,…,63), OFFSET_CONTROLINTEGERINTEGER (0,…,63), feedbackPeriodicityControlFlagINTEGER (0,1) channelIndex INTEGER (0,…,63) OPTIONAL, shortTermFeedbackPeriod INTEGER (0,…,7) OPTIONAL, longTermFeedbackPeriod INTEGER (0,…,3) OPTIONAL, frameOffsetNumber INTEGER (0,…,3) OPTIONAL, subframeIndex INTEGER (0,…,7) OPTIONAL, allocationDuration INTEGER (0,…,7) OPTIONAL } ---ASN.1STOP

Proposed Solution (2/2) feedbackPeriodicityControlFlag: Indicates if additional FFBCH periodicity control parameters exist in AAI_UL_POWER_ADJ channelIndex: Uniquely identifies a fast feedback channel on which an AMS can transmit fast feedback information. With this allocation, a one-to-one relationship is established between channel index and the AMS shortTermFeedbackPeriod: Short-term feedback is transmitted on the FBCH every 2 p frames, where p is the value specified by shortTermFeedbackPeriod longTermFeedbackPeriod: Long-term feedback is transmitted on the FBCH every 2 q short-term feedback reports are transmitted, where q is the value specified by longTermFeedbackPeriod. If q = 0b00, long-term feedback is not used frameOffsetNumber: The AMS starts reporting at the frame of which the number has the same 3 LBS as the specified frame number. If the current frame is specified, the AMS starts reporting in eight frames subframeIndex: Indicates the UL AAI subframe index in the UL portion of the frame allocationDuration: An FBCH is transmitted on the FBCH channels indexed by Channel Index for 8×2 d frames, where d is the value given by allocationDuration. If d = 0b000, the FBCH is deallocated. If d = 0b111, the AM reports until the ABS command for the AMS to stop

Remarks In this contribution, we suggest to combine both AAI_UL_POWER_ADJ message and FA-A-MAP-IE as a new AAI_UL_POWER_ADJ message so that AMS can adjust not only the transmit power but also the feedback periodicity of AMS at the same time without additional resource Since not all the control parameters from FA-A-MAP-IE are included in the new AAI_UL_POWER_ADJ message, only feedback periodicity and duration are updated while the other feedback mechanisms, such as MIMO mode, are kept the same as specified in the latest FA-A-MAP-IE
