Zone Indication by Triangle Method Resources are split between zones only in the frequency domain Contiguous sub-bands per zone Worst case scenario considered Max 21 subbands in 20MHz Need 231 nodes to index contiguous subbands 8 bits per zone for supporting FDM Bit overhead : 8N N is the number of E-MBS zones Should inform the total number of E-MBS zones explicitly 20MHz case

Zone Indication by Bit-MAP Method Zone Allocation Bit-MAP : No need to inform the number of E-MBS zones explicitly through the control message Zone Allocation Bit-MAP AMS can know the zone configuration through the Bit-MAP. Bit 0 means No Changing of the Zone. Bit 1 means Changing of the Zone regardless of the kind of zones. The number of zones : the number of bit 1 in the Bit-MAP + 1 Bit overhead : (Total number of Subbands – 1) Bits No increase even if the number of E-MBS zones increases ZI (Zone_Indicator) Used for distinguishing between E-MBS zones and unicast zones Bit 0 means Unicast Zone. Bit 1 means E-MBS Zone. 20MHz case

Comparison Between Two Methods Triangle method Bit overhead : 8N In previous example, bit overhead is 24 bits. Bit overhead is increased as the number of E-MBS zones increases. Additional information bits for the number of E-MBS zones are needed. 3 bits are already being used in the AAI-E-MBS-CFG_Message in current P802.16m/D3. Bit-MAP method Bit overhead : Total number of Subbands – 1 In previous example, bit overhead for RI is 20 bits. Bit overhead is fixed regardless of the number of E-MBS zones. The number of zones can be known implicitly. Additional information bits for the number of E-MBS zones are no needed. E-MBS zone is distinguished from the unicast zone by ZI
