IMPORTANT FORESTRY TOOLS AND USE

REFORESTATION TOOLS Dibble, KCB Bars, and hoedads are hand tools that are used to replant trees. Holes are opened in the ground with the tool then the seedling is placed in the hole and dirt is pack around the seedling.

COMPASS There are two types of hand held compasses Quadrant Measures in 4 quadrants Azimuth Measures in 360 degrees Staff Compass Most accurate of the non digital compasses.

CLINOMETER Used to show slope and height of objects. Commonly used to measure heights of trees in forestry

LOGGERS TAPE Used to measure distance from objects, lengths of logs, and diameters of trees

DIAMETER TAPE Used to measure the diameter of trees Smaller than a loggers tape but about as accurate.

DRIP TORCH Used to control fuel loads in pine stands Used as a forest fire fighting tool

FIRE FIGHTING HAND TOOLS Fire Rake Hand tool that is used to remove fuel form a fire line or around a spot fire Fire Swatter Used to smother fire in straw and low grass and weeds, removes air from the fire Pulaski Forester Axe Forestry multi tool, used to chop and dig fire lines in rough ground.

BACK-PACK FIRE PUMP Allows a wild-land fire fighter to pack water to a fire where it would not be avaiable

10 FACTOR PRISM Used to determine the amount of standing timber in a given plot. Used to calculate Basal Area of a given plot

TREE MARKING GUN Tool used to make which trees to cut/leave Also used to make land line or plot boundaries.
