Editing and Revision

Revision Revision is the process of improving your piece of writing through: > the addition or removal of chunks of text > the rearrangement of paragraphs and sentences > the development of ideas through added detail and description.

Editing Editing is the correcting of grammar, spelling and punctuation in a piece of writing. It is smaller, less drastic changes that occur after the revision process is complete. Beware of spell check …

Beware! It is important not to rely solely on spell check to edit a piece of work. WHY?

WHY??? Only corrects spelling errors not misused words Does not understand context.

Tips and Tricks Get a peer to edit your paper because they may pick up on errors you have missed. Read your paper aloud to yourself to help identify errors or segments that need reworking. Read your paper sentence by sentence backwards in order to isolate the sentences.
