Iomega Confidential 3 General Hard Drive Information What is HDD? Hard Disk Drive. Iomega Hard Drive is the fast, easy way to add the storage you need for digital video, photos, audio files and more. Iomega offers Portable and External (Desktop) Hard Drives, compatible with computers that use USB 1.1, 2.0, and/or IEEE 1394 interface (400 & 800 FireWire).

Iomega Confidential 4 General Hard Drive Information Compatible with both Windows, Macintosh and Linux Operating Systems. (Linux support not guaranteed.) ‏ Designed for transferring large amounts of data quickly. Ports can have a maximum burst rates of up to 1.5 MB/sec through USB 1.1, 60 MB/sec through USB 2.0, and 50 MB/sec through FireWire. Can provide backup of an entire system (depending on the hard drive capacity). Capacity Limitations for File Systems and Operating Systems: –FAT32 doesn’t allow for single files to be greater than 4GB. Formatting the volume to NTFS will allow for this size to increase considerably. –2TB is the maximum addressable partition size for Windows XP 32-bit systems. This can affect the UltraMax Plus which has a capacity potential of 4TB if put into RAID0 or JBOD modes.

Iomega Confidential 8 Iomega UltraMax Plus Information Dip Switch Settings for RAID Settings: –Simple (No RAID) – [down, down] –JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) – [down, up] –RAID 0 – [up, down] –RAID 1 – [up, up] DuoLink, USB cable has Host connection on both ends. –To attach DuoLink, the seam on the USB cable must face the top of the device. –The USB cable must not be plugged into the stacked USB ports (the USB hub). The drive will not work unless it is plugged into the DuoLink Port. –The eSATA cable can be plugged into the DuoLink port with the top pointing to the top of the drive, as it would be used normally. Only one interface can be used at a time. –The first interface plugged into the drive will be the one used. –The USB hub can only be used if the USB interface is used to connect to the host machine; This also applies to the Firewire interface. Iomega Confidential 14 Iomega eGo Dual Information The two Firewire ports allow multiple firewire devices to be connected in parallel. –Using the USB connection will not allow the Firewire ports to be used in a daisy- chain. The power connection on the drive may need to be used if the USB port on the host cannot provide enough power. –It comes with two Firewire cables. –It also comes with a USB Y-cable and has a power-only connection (marked with a lightning bolt) and a data and power connection. If your device can be powered off of the data and power USB cable. You should be able to use a regular USB cable with this device and your computer. –A power supply for the drive can be purchased from Iomega Direct. USB 2.0 add-on cards are supported  Make sure that the BIOS will support USB drives

Iomega Confidential 17 Troubleshooting FireWire Hard Drive Drive Not Detected  Connect directly to the FireWire port not a hub or other FireWire device  Make sure that the FireWire controller is enabled and operating correctly  For Windows 98/98SE/Me, verify that the customer installed the latest drivers.  For Windows XP/2000/2003, no drivers package needs to be installed  Verify that the drive is detected in Device Manager.

Iomega Confidential 18 Troubleshooting If under the USB Controller, Iomega USB Mass Storage Class Driver (or similar), isn’t present, then you need to install the driver manually (Through Control Panel, Add new Hardware) If all entries are there but the unit is still not visible in My Computer, verify that –A drive letter has been assigned In Windows 98/98SE/Me, double-click the Iomega drive in Disk Drives section, select Settings and assign a letter –The drive is not using HFS/HFS+ format (Macintosh File System) Follow article to create format drive in FAT32 (Windows 98/98SE/Me/XP/2000/2003) bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16551

Iomega Confidential 19 Troubleshooting Windows XP/2000/2003/Vista do not support the HFS/HFS+ file system. (Applicable to the UltraMax Plus and MiniMax Desktop Drives) –You’ll need to reformat the drive (using FDISK or Disk Management) ‏ –The Drive will need to be using the NTFS or FAT32 file system to be used on a PC running the above Operating Systems. –Instructions to Format for all Operating Systems are found at Answer ID 500. Select the Appropriate Operating System and you will be redirected to information about formatting. Mac OS 10.x doesn’t support NTFS (without 3 rd party software) ‏ –You’ll need to reformat the drive (using Disk Erase utility) ‏ –Instructions for Mac OS X 10.5 are found at Answer ID Mac OS X 10.2 through will not show FAT32 volume > 128GB Time Machine (included with Mac OS X 10.5 or Leopard) supports booting from the eSATA interface.
