Information for Head Teachers and Classroom Teachers

The TVET program allows school students to complete 2 to 4 units towards their Higher School Certificate at TAFE. Students can enrol in 2 units in the first year of study (Preliminary) and 2 units in the second year of study (HSC). Most school students will enrol in Year 11 – Preliminary Year 12 – HSC These students are then eligible to gain 4 units towards their HSC result and a TAFE award.

But... Year 12 students can enrol in a preliminary course. They are then eligible to gain 2 units towards their HSC and a TAFE transcript. Year 11 students can withdraw after the preliminary year and are eligible for 2 units for that year, and a TAFE transcript. Year 10 students can now enrol in TVET courses. Some courses allow students to complete 6 units of study over 2 years

Board of Studies (BOS) endorsed course. Students are eligible to gain 2 units towards their Higher School Certificate. Selected units from a TAFE course. Students are eligible for a TAFE qualification. Some TVET courses will allow students to course complete.

There are 2 types of TVET courses Framework Course and Non Framework Course

You are delivering a Framework Course

A satisfactory completion awards a TVET student with 4 units towards the completion of the HSC, 2 units in each year of study. In the second year of study students will sit at Trial Exam at TAFE and have an option to undertake a HSC exam at their school. These students then may be eligible for an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) in addition to their 4 units.

You are responsible for preparing your students for their HSC examination. You are also responsible for conducting, marking and submitting marks for the trial exam. The trial exam result is used by the Board of Studies as the student’s estimated mark.

You can download the HSC syllabus to ensure you meet BOS requirements.

 Work placement component (compulsory)  Trial examination completed in class time at TAFE during their HSC year of study  HSC exam to be completed at home school (optional )

Work placement is mandatory for framework courses, 35 hours per year. Welcome Abbey Hartgrove from Workplace Learning Illawarra. Work placement hours when completed must be entered ASAP into CLAMS roll book via TVET tab.

 Registering students  Selecting appropriate placements  Completion and administration of documentation – students are not covered for indemnity without documentation  Site visit  Providing students with TAFE contact information whilst on work placement

Registration of student work placement is done via the website Computer rooms have been booked to assist in this crucial step and we are endeavouring to have all TVET students registered in the first week of study. Please note that students are able to use their home school username and password to access the Internet.

Issued and completed at TAFE during class time. To be marked by TAFE teacher. Exams are out of 80, please scale mark out of 100 and use whole numbers only. Trial exams dates will be notified to teaching sections, usually August. Past papers are also available on website Results (estimates) to be entered CLAMS roll book via TVET tab.

Optional exam. Students will sit this exam if they wish to achieve an ATAR result for University entry. Students complete this exam at their home school during the HSC examination week. Encourage students to take responsibility on notifying school of their intention on sitting HSC exam. Make time in class to discuss HSC exam and registration of their intention to sit the exam.

Keep a manual roll for the first 3-4 weeks (there is a major shift by students during this time) A CLAMS roll book will be generated by head teacher or TVET coordinator. Check for TVET tab in roll.

All teachers and head teachers on TVET programs are required to have a TVET tab in CLAMS. This tab is vital throughout the year to facilitate mandatory data entry. If a TVET tab does not appear in your roll book please complete a CLAMS Account Request/Change form.

1. Enrolment Confirmation Forms are supplied to classroom teacher. 2. Student to the check form for accuracy and manually make changes to any errors. Highlight any changes for Student Administration. 3. Student to sign Enrolment Confirmation Form. 4. Teacher to sign Enrolment Confirmation Form as enrolling officer.

5. Statistical page must be completed in full Stats: Shellharbour 78.6% not completed Wollongong 28.6% not completed West Wollongong 29.8% not completed 5. Students are taken to Student Administration (teachers please book ahead). 6. Enrolment Confirmation Forms to be left with Student Administration. 7. Student to obtain a Student TAFE card.

Please assist by having TVET students complete an Authority to Publish. If students are under 18 they will need parental signature. Class teacher to collect and file Authority to Publish in roll books.

If students need to access the car park throughout the year they must complete a Student Parking Permit Form and take to Student Administration. A fee of $10 is payable on submission of form and then student to pay $1 each visit.

Students must complete all requirements as set out in TAFE Student Assessment Guide, students to receive and sign for. Results for these units are recorded into CLAMS by classroom teacher and approved by Head Teacher. These results are TAFE results and are SEPARATE from BOS results.

Students will achieve either a Satisfactory result or an N determination (non completion). This result is recorded by TVET Co-ordinator and forwarded to the TVET Institute Consultant. You do NOT need to do anything about this mark but you will be required to ensure that students are meeting the BOS requirements in your classroom.

 Apply themselves with diligence and sustained effort to set tasks (not assessment tasks).  Achieve some or all of the outcomes.  Complete the mandatory work placement requirement in framework courses.  Make a genuine attempt at assessment which contributes in excess of 50% of the available marks. To satisfactorily complete a BOS course a student must To satisfactorily complete a BOS course a student must :

When you determine a student is not satisfactorily completing the Board of Studies component the student is to receive 2 warning letters before the process of an N determination is commenced. There are strictly enforced deadlines set by the Board of Studies for the issue of warning letters and N determinations.

Warnings letters are initiated by TAFE classroom teacher through the TVET tab in CLAMS roll book. Warning letters are sent to the school and student by the TVET coordinator using a mail merge with data in CLAMS roll book. If student does not comply within the allocated time then another letter is to be created and sent ASAP.

Schools have read only access to records in CLAMS. Teachers to complete attendances each week. This is a requirement of the delivery contract. Work placement hours to be recorded in CLAMS as soon as student completes. HSC trial marks to be entered as soon as possible after completion of the exam. BOS will download all work placements hours and HSC trial marks as soon as CLAMS results are approved and locked.
