WHATAREWIKIS? A wiki is a page or collection of web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language. Also known as “Collaborative websites” E.g. Wikipedia

Intro slide 2

BACKGROUND First Wiki created in 1995 by Ward Cunningham – called WikiWikiWeb WikiWikiWeb let software developers create a library of “software patterns” In the early 2000s, wikis were increasingly adopted in enterprise as collaborative software Today some companies utilize wikis as their only collaborative software and as a replacement for static intranets

BENEFITSOFWIKIS The wiki has no predetermined structure - consequently it is a flexible tool which can be used for a wide range of applications Widens access to the power of web publishing to non-technical users People located in different parts of the world can work on the same document – encourages collaborative working
