5 What is a Mortgage? The definition through Wikipedia is: “A conveyance of an interest in property as security for the repayment of money borrowed.” People will use a mortgage to purchase a home if they do not have enough cash to be able to pay for it. People will also refinance the mortgage they currently have to make the payments lower.
