FOCUS TEAM MEETING 3/1/12 EVALUATING LESSON PLANNING PRACTICES I can evaluate a lesson plan for: Alignment Rigor/HOTS Student Engagement Scaffolding/Differentiation

HUMAN THERMOMETER Think about the alignment of the lesson plan. In your opinion, are the EQ, obj, LTs, Starter, Instructional Strategies, and Exit Slip well aligned to achieve the objective of powerful student learning? Decide a rating from 1-5 with 1 being not aligned at all and 5 being perfectly aligned. Without talking about it, arrange yourselves in a human thermometer across the room. 5 Minutes

GROUP ACTIVITY TO ASSESS THE PLAN Group 1 – Look for evidence of higher order thinking, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and rigor Group 2 – Look at the instructional strategies and determine if students will be engaged or if the teacher is doing all the work. Support your judgment with evidence. Group 3 – Look for elements of differentiation or scaffolding intentionally designed by the teacher (this means kids could do various things based on ability, their choice of interest, learning style, etc) 10 minutes

PRESENT OUT FINDINGS AND THEN GOSSIP Each group will present out to the whole group what you found. People who were not in the group should take notes and ask questions to be active listeners. Find a partner and gossip about what you heard each group present. 10 minutes
