Definition of Pollution Pollution - the introduction of waste into an environment that causes disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem.
Air Pollution: Air Pollution - the release of chemicals and particulates into the atmosphere Tobacco Smoke Exhaust from Vehicles Burning Coal Acid rain
Water Pollution Water pollution - the release of waste products and contaminants into surface runoff into river drainage systems, leaching into groundwater, liquid spills, waste water discharges, and littering. Thermal Pollution - a temperature change in natural water bodies caused by industrial factories (This can also leave lead, acids, or other dangerous chemicals in our water)
Water Pollution Cont. Mining and Agricultural Wastes- Gold and coal mines are often responsible for acid water. Pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides wash into rivers and water bodies. Sewage Disposal and Domestic Wastes-Sewage from cities and farm are often allowed to pollute rivers and dams.
Land Pollution Littering- trash that is thrown on the ground instead of put in a trash can Soil Contamination-chemicals released by a spill or underground pipes. Also by chemicals in weed killers and poisons which kill insects and other pests.
Other Types of Pollution Light Pollution - light trespass, over-illumination and astronomical interference. Noise Pollution - roadway noise, aircraft noise, and industrial noise. Visual Pollution - the presence of overhead power lines, motorway billboards, scarred landforms (as from strip mining), open storage of trash or municipal solid waste.
