Plant Life Cycles Plants from seeds

1. Seeds are the first part in a flowering plant’s life cycle. 2. Seeds need: warmth, water, air and soil to begin to grow. 3. Most seeds don’t get what they need to grow. 4. When a seed has its needs met it germinates or sprouts.

A seed sprouting looks like this.

Animals such as birds, bees, and bats feed on nectar. This spreads pollen to help flowers form seeds.

The Spread of Seeds 1. Fruit falls to the ground 2. Animals eat fruit and then it passes through their bodies

3.Animals bury seeds and then forget about them 4.Wind and water carry seeds Dandelion seeds 5. Some seeds stick to things(Beggar’s Lice)

Plants from Spores Some plants grow from spores-tiny cells. Spores are much smaller than seeds. Most are one celled and can only be seen with a microscope. Spores grow in capsules

Making New Plants from Old 1.A spider plant can send out buds on a type of stem called a runner. When these buds touch the ground they form roots and begin to grow.

2.Tulips grow from bulbs

Making New Plants from Old 3.Some grow from a stem being put into water. 4.Grafting is done when people attach a cut stem of one plant to a slice in the stem of another plant. 5.Potatoes are tubers or swollen underground stems.
