Earth Science Rocks! MYP Unit Question: What should I wear today? Area of Interaction: Environment Learner Profile: Communicator

Earth Science Rocks! Standard: Understand how the distribution of land and oceans affect climate and weather. Essential Question: What instruments are used by meterologists to collect weather data?

1. A meteorologist studies the weather

2. A drizzle is a very light rain

3. A barometer measures air pressure

4. Stratus, cirrus, and cumulus are clouds.

5. Blizzards are heavy windy snowstorms

6. Fronts are the places where hot and cold air masses meet

7. Precipitation is another word for rain

8. Sleet and snow are frozen rain

9. Fog is a ground mist that makes it very hard to see.

10. A thermometer measures hot and cold.

11. Weather is made in the Earth’s atmosphere

12. A funnel-shaped violent wind storm is called a tornado

13. The sudden heating and cooling of air causes thunder.

14. A breeze is a gentle wind.

15. A gust is a strong and sudden rush of wind.

16. Temperature is the degree of hotness or coldness of weather.

17. The amount of water held in the air is called humidity.

18. A hurricane is a violent wind and rain storm. 19. The eye of a hurricane is its center.

20. The temperature of air gets colder as you go up in the atmosphere.

21. Rising (high) air pressure means a sunny pleasant day. 22. Falling (low) air pressure means cloudy with rain. 23. Steady air pressure means there will be little change in weather.

24. An air mass is a large amount of air.
