Who Uses the NIMAC?  One state NIMAC Coordinator “names” up to five Authorized Users (AU) who can download files from the NIMAC.  States also contract with Accessible Media Producers (AMP) to get files ready for students.  Bookshare functions as both an AU and an AMP, depending on the state  Educators obtain NIMAC books from Bookshare – process depends on the state 3

How to Get Books that are in the NIMAC but Not Yet in Bookshare*  Use “ContactUs” and select “NIMAC Textbooks and Other NIMAC Questions” under “My question is about”  Provide the title, author, ISBN of the book and your contact info  We will retrieve the book from the NIMAC and add it to Bookshare within two weeks  We will notify you via when the book is available for download. *Only for states in which Bookshare is an AU 6

Who Can Download NIMAC Books from Bookshare ?  Any U.S. K-12 educator with Bookshare membership  NIMAC books are for K-12 schools only  NIMAC books may not be downloaded by students  Educators may download NIMAC books only for students with a print disability and an IEP 9

Textbooks Not in the NIMAC  Contact your book purchasing department and see if request was made to publisher.  Check with your State Coordinator to see what contracts are in place with publishers.  Be sure textbook purchasers stipulate NIMAS files in publisher contracts.  Find suggested contract language at  Send physical copy to Bookshare to scan, proofread and add, but this takes 2-3 mos. 12
